As most 90’s kids, I spent much of my childhood watching the “OG” Disney princess movies – you know, Cinderella, Snow White, Little Mermaid – just to name a few – and they became a huge staple in my life. As a little girl, I remember wishing I was a redhead because I wanted mermaid hair like Ariel or that I had a library like Belle’s in Beauty in the Beast - I just wanted to be like them. As children, you look up to the characters you fall in love with and that’s exactly what I did with these princesses. But the problem with these movies, is that in most of them, the women are always portrayed as weak or as someone who needs a man to come in and rescue them. And I hate that. So I decided to put my own spin on the classic Disney Princess and recreate my own vision of what I think they should be like – so.. introducing “The Princess Project”.
I decided to start with Pocahontas. She was probably my favorite Disney character as a young girl and out of all of the “OG Princesses” – she was by far the strongest and most independent and I just felt like she needed to be the introductory princess to my series. And so it begins. I cannot wait to share what else I have planned!
ALSO – I cannot thank my girl, Lauryn enough for modeling and just killing it in general. When I decided to do this, I knew she would be perfect for recreating the Disney Pocahontas – especially with her Native American Heritage!
*Please note - this is a re-creation based SOLELY on the DISNEY CHARACTER, Pocahontas.
