As most 90’s kids, I spent much of my childhood watching the “OG” Disney princess movies – you know, Cinderella, Snow White, Little Mermaid – just to name a few – and they became a huge staple in my life. As a little girl, I remember wishing I was a redhead because I wanted mermaid hair like Ariel or that I had a library like Belle’s in Beauty in the Beast - I just wanted to be like them. As children, you look up to the characters you fall in love with and that’s exactly what I did with these princesses. But the problem with these movies, is that in most of them, the women are always portrayed as weak or as someone who needs a man to come in and rescue them. And I hate that. So I decided to put my own spin on the classic Disney Princess and recreate my own vision of what I think they should be like – so.. introducing “The Princess Project”.
My third Princess- Snow White was what actually made this whole thing come to life. Lauryn and I were brainstorming ideas for a photoshoot and she mentioned doing a whimsical/dark version of Snow White and then it just took off from there. And I am OBSESSED. Loved how this one came together - and she's the first princess who we incorporated the villain! Katelyn
